Work to create the roof of the Yerba Buena/Moscone Station is moving along on the west side of 4th Street.
The machine shown here is called a concrete boom pump, which has an extendable arm and transports wet concrete across long distances.
Once the concrete is poured, a crew of workers smooth the cement to create a slab which serves as the base for forming the permanent roof slab.
Iit looks like there is a lot of room above the roof, but below the street.
Is that to leave room for sewers and other utilities?
Hi Tom. If you go to this rendering on our Flickr account: https://www.flickr.com/photos/municentralsubway/8076434354/in/set-72157627933898414 it somewhat shows the area you are referring to. There will be the station’s roof and then the utilities will stretch across that and then there is backfill/dirt…then the pavement/roadway.
